Starfish's unique and effective service model links early childhood care and education, mental health supports, parent engagement and youth services to ensure children are prepared for school success and supported by strong families that are led by thriving parents and caregivers. Each day Starfish provides the following services directly or through our Thrive By Five Detroit Collaborative partners: 1.Early Headstart (ages 0-3) classroom education for 417 children 2.Headstart (ages 3-5) classroom education for 962 children 3.Great Start Readiness Program (ages 4-5) classroom education for 96 children 4.A full array of children's mental health home-based and outpatient services for 2,480 children 5.Youth assistance programs, teen parenting programs and youth leadership programs for over 268 children aged 10-21 each month In addition to these programs for children, SFS also offers programming for parents under the umbrella of Starfish University. Our goal is to provide parents with a range of classes, supports, conferences and events that will build hope, social networks, parenting skills and help parents achieve their own personal goals so that they can get past barriers in order to better support their children. This university framework includes the Starfish Campus (we have service sites throughout Wayne County), our student government (Empowering Parents/Investing In Children Parent Leadership Team), the Starfish financial aid office (Starfish Community Finance Center) and other extracurricular programs such as Zumba, Book Club, Getting Ready for Kindergarten, etc. Parents report that Starfish University is a welcoming and empowering program that helps them to support their children. |
