THE TRI COUNTY AGENCY FOR INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES, INC. PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS THAT OF PLANNING AND TAKING STEPS LEADING TO COMPREHENSIVE STATE AND COMMUNITY ACTION TO COMBAT ALL FORMS OF MENTAL RETARDATION AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THE SERVICES ARE FUNDED TO A GREAT DEGREE BY CONTRACTS ENTERED INTO WITH THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH. |

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES - RESIDENTIAL SERVICES PROVIDED TO NON-INSTITUTIONALIZED INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED PERSONS PRIMARILY VIA SUB- CONTRACTED SERVICES PERFORMED BY UNRELATED OUTSIDE ENTITIES. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED (AGAIN, PRIMARILY THROUGH SUBPROVIDERS, SCLH (SUPERVISED COMMUNITY LIVING HOME)) SERVICES MONTHLY. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED MONTHLY SERVICES UNDER OTHER RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS AS WELL, INCLUDING PERSONAL CARE, AND OTHER SERVICES, INCLUDING DEPRECIATION FOR THE ORGANIZATION AS WHOLE. ONCE AGAIN, THESE VARIOUS SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FOR THE BENEFIT OF INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED PERSONS. |

ARE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNING BODIES OF THE FOLLOWING THREE COUNTY'S LOCATED IN WEST-CENTRAL ALABAMA: WALKER COUNTY, FAYETTE COUNTY, AND LAMAR COUNTY. THOSE GOVERNING BODIES MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO APPOINT INDIVIDUALS WITH AN INTEREST IN SERVING INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED PERSONS TO SERVE AS BOARD MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION. |

THE GOVERNING BODY (BOARD OF DIRECTORS) MEETS PERIODICALLY TO OVERSEE THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE BOARD IS NOT INTENDED FOR THE PURPOSE OF "MICRO-MANAGING," BUT RATHER DELEGATES THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CONDUCTING THE ORGANIZATION'S DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AN EMPLOYEE HIRED BY THE BOARD. |

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REVIEWS THE COMPLETE RETURN ITSELF PRIOR TO IT BEING SUBMITTED. THE DATA APPEARING ON THE RETURN IS EXTRACTED PRIMARILY FROM DATA ACCUMULATED DURING AND ALONG WITH THE PROCESS OF OUR ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENT AUDIT. THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT AUDIT IS REVIEWED IN FULL BY THE GOVERNING BOARD. THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ARE PREPARED ON A GAAP BASIS, AND ONCE AGAIN, THE 990 DATA IS EXTRACTED THEREFROM. A REVIEW OF THE SLATE OF INDIVIDUALS SERVING ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS REVIEWED PERIODICALLY TO ASSURE NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST. THE ORGANIZATION DOES HAVE AS ITS PURPOSE THAT OF PROVIDING PROGRAMS INTENDED TO SERVE THOSE SUFFERING FROM VARING DEGREES OF INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (PREVIOUSLY REFERED TO AS MENTAL RETARDATION). THE ORGANIZATION IN NO WAY VIEWS INDIVIDUALS THAT MAY FROM TIME-TO-TIME SERVE ON THE BOARD WHO MAY HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES TO BE IN VIOLATION OF A CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY. RATHER, THOSE INDIVIDUALS ARE VIEWED AS BEING ONES THAT CAN TRULY RELATE TO THE PURPOSE AND MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION, AND THEREFORE BE ABLE TO PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED INPUT FROM THAT VANTAGE POINT. |
