ECONOMIC JUSTICE: MFJ's economic justice practice area works to ensure that low-income New Yorkers can access public benefits (such as disability benefits, food stamps, and health insurance); ensure people get the wages to which they are entitled and get unemployment benefits and workers compensation where appropriate, and formerly incarcerated people get licenses so they can successfully reenter the workforce. We work with people to avoid crippling debt, and challenge predatory and deceptive lending practices. Because resolving immigration problems is often key to ensuring economic stability, we also provide legal services in this area. |

CHILDREN's RIGHTS: Mobilization for Justice's Children's rights program helps low-income parents secure appropriate special education services and public benefits, including SSI, for their children with disabilities. We also serve the legal needs of kinship caregivers who care for a related child when the biological parent is unable or unwilling to do so, or when a child has been removed from the parents. We help caregivers to access public benefits and help resolve consumer, housing, and immigration issues that may negatively impact the caregiver's ability to care for a related child. |
