HUNGER: EACH YEAR, THE URBAN MISSION DISTRIBUTES OVER 1 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD TO FAMILIES IN NEED. OUR CLIENT CHOICE PANTRY WAS OPENED IN 2014 AND CONTINUES TO SUPPORT MORE THAN 5,000 INDIVIDUALS EACH MONTH. THE URBAN MISSION ALSO OPERATES A SOUP KITCHEN WHICH SERVES A HOT MEAL FOUR TIMES A WEEK. MEALS ARE ALSO SERVED THROUGH OUR SHELTER SYSTEM WITH AN AVERAGE OF 20,000 MEALS SERVED EACH YEAR. IN 2019, THE URBAN MISSION LAUNCHED ITS MOBILE CHILDREN'S SUMMER FOOD PANTRY (MSFP) TO ADDRESS GAPS IN SERVICE AS IT RELATES TO HEALTHY FOOD ACCESS FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN JEFFERSON COUNTY. FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF THE MSFP PROGRAM, WE SERVED 317 CHILDREN OVER A THREE WEEK PERIOD AT SIX DIFFERENT SITES IN JEFFERSON COUNTY. IN ADDITION, THE URBAN MISSION REMAINS A STRONG PARTNER WITH THE MID-OHIO FOODBANK, SERVING AS A HUB FOR TEN OF ITS LOCAL PANTRIES. |

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: JOBS FOR LIFE: THE URBAN MISSION BELIEVES IN PROVIDING HOLISTIC CARE TO THOSE WE SERVE. OUR CLIENTELE RECEIVE THIS THROUGH OUR JOBS FOR LIFE PROGRAM, AN EIGHT WEEK, 16 COURSE PROGRAM, THAT PROVIDES PARTICIPANTS WITH THE TOOLS TO FIND SPIRITUAL AND FINANCIAL FREEDOM, WHILE TEACHING THEM WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE A LIFE OF PURPOSE THROUGH WORK AND FINDING GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT. SOCIAL ENTERPRISE/URBAN THRIFT AND OPPORTUNITY CENTER: IN 2018 THE URBAN MISSION LAUNCHED ITS FIRST SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, A THRIFT STORE CALLED "URBAN THRIFT & OPPORTUNITY CENTER". URBAN THRIFT PROVIDES LOW COST GOODS AS WELL AS TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS. URBAN THRIFT IS ONE OF MANY SOCIAL ENTERPRISES THE URBAN MISSION WILL ENTER TO MEET THE UNMET NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY UTILIZING A MARKET- DRIVEN APPROACH. |
