GENERALLY, A CONFLICT MAY ARISE WHEN 1) A TRUSTEE HAS AN EXISTING OR POTENTIAL FINANCIAL OR OTHER INTEREST WHICH IMPAIRS, OR MIGHT APPEAR TO IMPAIR, HIS OR HER OBJECTIVITY IN SERVING THE SCHOOL; OR 2) A TRUSTEE MIGHT DERIVE, OR APPEAR TO DERIVE, A FINANCIAL OR OTHER MATERIAL BENEFIT FROM HIS OR HER BOARD SERVICE. ULTIMATELY, THE DETERMINATION OF WHETHER A CONFLICT OF INTEREST EXISTS RELIES ON EACH TRUSTEE'S SOUND JUDGMENT, HONESTY, AND ETHICS. WHEN A POTENTIAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST EXISTS OR IS BELIEVED TO EXIST, PROMPT DISCLOSURE TO THE CHAIR OR CO-CHAIR IS REQUIRED. RECUSAL OR ABSTENTION MAY BE REQUIRED. COMPENSATION FOR KEY EMPLOYEES IS BENCHMARKED AGAINST COMPARABLE POSITIONS AT PEER INSTITUTIONS, USING THE DASL SURVERY WHICH IS COLLECTED ANNUALLY IN THE FALL BY NAIS. THE HEAD OF SCHOOL REVIEWS THE DATA TO DETERMINE SALARIES. THE MOST RECENT YEAR IN WHICH THIS PROCESS WAS COMPLETED WAS 2016. |
