TENNESSEE SHAKESPEARE COMPANY IS THE FIRST AND ONLY PROFESSIONAL, NOT-FOR- PROFIT (501C3) THEATRE AND EDUCATION ORGANIZATION IN MEMPHIS DEDICATED TO LIVE, DIVERSE PERFORMANCES OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARES PLAYS, AS WELL AS WORKS OF SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE BY CLASSICAL, SOUTHERN, AND MODERN PLAYWRIGHTS/ COMPOSERS; AND TO PROVIDING INNOVATIVE EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND OUTREACH PROGRAMMING. |

THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED OVER 300 YEAR-ROUND EDUCATIONAL, TRAINING, AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGED OVER 20,000 STUDENT INTERACTIONS IN THE MEMPHIS AREA AND ACROSS THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S. DURING 2019-20. A NEW ONLINE ACADEMY WAS LAUNCHED CONSISTING OF 40 COURSES, LECTURES, PLAYSHOPS, AND PERFORMANCES TO ASSIST WITH EXPANDED PROGRAM DELIVERY DURING COVID: VIRTUAL/HYBRID/IN-PERSON. PROGRAMS INCLUDED THE NATIONALLY-ACCLAIMED "ROMEO AND JULIET PROJECT", WHICH BRINGS A 90-MINUTE PERFORMANCE OF THE PLAY AND THREE NON-VIOLENCE WORKSHOPS TO EVERY FRESHMAN IN PARTNERING TITLE 1 HIGH SCHOOLS. OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDED MORNING STUDENT MATINEES OF PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTIONS, IN-SCHOOL PLAYSHOPS, ARTS-IN-EDUCATION RESIDENCIES, A VIRTUAL SCHOOLS TOURING PRODUCTION OF BOTH "ROMEO AND JULIET- AND "TWELFTH NIGHT," TWO SUMMER CAMPS, RESIDENCIES FOR ADJUDICATED YOUTH IN TWO MEMPHIS LOCK-UP SYSTEMS, AND LONG-TERM RESIDENCIES FOR MILITARY VETERANS IN CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY UNITS AT THE MEMPHIS V.A. HOSPITAL. |
