THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE BASED ON COMMUNITY SERVICE, SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND GRADE-POINT AVERAGE. RECIPIENTS ARE PUBLICIZED THROUGH OUR WEBSITE AND LOCAL NEWSPAPERS AND WERE HONORED AT A JUNE AWARD LUNCHEON. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Adopt A Family - the Assisteens auxiliary of Assistance League Glendale provided 5 families with holiday gifts and gift cards. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: ASCENCIA SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS - USUALLY, MEMBERS OF LAS CARITAS AND ASSISTEENS, AUXILIARIES OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE GLENDALE, PROVIDE DINNERS AND WEEKEND BREAKFASTS FOR ABOUT 1,350 RESIDENTS/YEAR AT THE HOMELESS SHELTER IN GLENDALE. IT IS A GUEST-CHEF PROGRAM THAT ALLOWS GROUPS TO PREPARE FOOD BROUGHT TO THE SHELTER AND SERVE IT TO THE CHANGING POPULATION OF 40 TO 50 RESIDENTS. BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, OUR MEMBERS CONTRIBUTED MEALS, BUT DID NOT SERVE THEM. THE SHELTERS STAFF AND RESIDENTS TOOK OVER THAT TASK. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE GLENDALE PROVIDES APPROPRIATE CLOTHING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS WHEN RESIDENTS ARE IN TRANSITION OUT OF THE SHELTER. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE PROVIDES GIFTS FOR THE CHILDREN IN THE SHELTER DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND ALSO SUPPLIES HYGIENE KITS FOR ABOUT 100 RESIDENTS SEEKING ASSISTANCE FROM THE SHELTER. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM ASSISTANCE LEAGUE GLENDALES THRIFT STORE PROVIDES THE VENUE THREE MORNINGS/WEEK FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR 9 YOUNG ADULTS WITH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DISABILITIES UNDER THE TUTELAGE OF THE STAFF OF THE TIERRA DEL SOL FOUNDATION. THE STUDENTS DEVELOP CONFIDENCE AS THEY LEARN VARIOUS SKILLS NEEDED TO WORK IN A RETAIL STORE, INCLUDING HOW TO MOVE MERCHANDISE, SORT AND HANG CLOTHING, ARRANGE CLOTHING ON RACKS, MOVE STOCK TO DISPLAY SHELVES, AND PURGE OLD MERCHANDISE FROM THE RACKS. STUDENTS ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE THEIR SOCIAL SKILLS AND SELF-ESTEEM WHILE INTERACTING WITH VOLUNTEERS FROM ASSISTANCE LEAGUE IN A CONGENIAL AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT. THIS PAST YEAR, THEY CONTRIBUTED 480 HOURS. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: GUSD HEALTHY START FOOD BANK THE LAS CARITAS AUXILIARY OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE GLENDALE PROVIDED MONTHLY DONATIONS OF UP TO $250 OF FOOD DELIVERED TO THE GUSD HEALTHY START FOOD BANK FOR 300 FAMILIES IN NEED. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: COMMUNITY OUTREACH - INCLUDES CRAFTS FOR LOVE, WHERE ASSISTEENS HAVE LEARNED TO KNIT AND CROCHET BLANKETS AND CLOTHING FOR RESIDENTS OF A HOMELESS SHELTER. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: WELCOME HOME! - PROVIDES ESSENTIAL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO FAMILIES LEAVING ASCENCIA, A GLENDALE HOMELESS SHELTER. FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE FOUND A JOB, SECURED HOUSING, AND PAID THE FIRST MONTHS RENT ON THEIR APARTMENT. WE PROVIDE A CELLOPHANED-WRAPPED LAUNDRY BASKET FULL OF BASIC HOME SUPPLIES AND CANNED GOODS, INCLUDING A CARD IDENTIFYING THE CHAPTER. 41 FAMILIES RECEIVED A BASKET DURING THE FISCAL YEAR
