IN 2019, ALL THREE PRIMARY SERVICE COUNTIES HAD UNEMPLOYMENT RATES LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT THEY HAD BEEN IN 2012: NEW HANOVER AT 3.6% UNEMPLOYMENT (WITH MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME OF $52,716), BRUNSWICK AT 5.2% UNEMPLOYMENT (WITH MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME AT $54,406), AND PENDER AT 3.9% UNEMPLOYMENT (WITH MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME OF $52,989). HOWEVER, DESPITE UNEMPLOYMENT RECOVERY, THE NUMBER OF THOSE LIVING IN POVERTY INCREASED FROM 2014-2018: NEW HANOVER WITH A 15.3% POVERTY RATE, BRUNSWICK WITH A 10.5% POVERTY RATE, AND PENDER WITH A 15.1% POVERTY RATE.
