Program Service Expenses 521,015, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 0 RESEARCH AND POLICY The State of the Workers report. On August 24, 2021, ROC United released the State of the Restaurant Workers SORW report, a comprehensive analysis of the restaurant workforce nationwide, tracking demographic information, poverty, public assistance, and unemployment. ROC United held a national press conference titled, State of the Restaurant Workers in America. With nearly 50 attendees, mostly from media outlets and partners across the country, the briefing was live streamed on Facebook and other social media engagements were made before, during and after the event. SOWR-related media coverage include The Washington Post Time Magazine LAist EATER and Spectrum News. U.S. Department of Labors Side Work rule. On October 28, 2021, the DOL issued its final rule on Side Work. ROC members flooded the DOL with supportive public comments. Of the 1,860 total public comments that the DOL received, over 1,000 of those came from ROC United worker members. |

EMPLOYER EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT continued Racial and gender equity in the Seattle restaurant industry. With our partnership with the Seattle Office for Civil Rights, ROC United launched a live-streaming event on July 29, 2021, paying tribute to restaurant owners and workers who continue to practice sustainable racial equity models that champion living wages, essential benefits, fair promotion policies and safety guidelines, most notably for workers of color. More than 7,000 workers and supporters virtually came together to hear stories from Seattle restaurant owners to honor their work and dedication to make the restaurant industry a more equitable and profitable place for all workers. RAISE High Road program. At the end of the 2021, ROC MI added 50 new RAISE partners and engaged them in technical assistance and capacity building efforts to incorporate ROCs workplace practices. Nationally, over 25 of RAISE partners participated in listening sessions to deepen ROC United relationships and better understand the owners needs during the pandemic. Paid leave for all. Nearly 2,500 ROC members and supporters across the country sent over 185,000 letters to members of Congress in support of paid leave, urging senators and representatives to pass a national paid family and medical leave policy. On Nov. 19, 2021, the House passed Build Back Better with paid leave provisions. Also, ROC United created a paid leave for all workers microsite, where all our members can visit and get more information about the policy. Social media posts, including photos, stories and videos of workers, have been employed since. |

MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE FOR RESTAURANT WORKERS continued Fight for 15 an hour. Titled 7.25, ROC MI held a virtual press conference on July 25, 2021, on why raising the federal minimum wage is needed to provide workers the living wages that they deserve. More than 25 Black elected officials, faith based leaders, workers, media representatives and ROC MI staff members attended the 7.25 briefing. ROC created a 7.25 microsite for the event and sent out several email blasts to partners and funders. The video of the press briefing was posted on social media and YouTube for public viewing. 2 billion for excluded workers. For the second year in a row, ROC D.C. mobilized and organized with our members and won this campaign. The D.C. Council approved in August of 2021 the inclusion of 41 million in cash assistance for excluded workers, who are mostly undocumented workers, cash economy workers or returning citizens. The same campaign for excluded workers happened in New York, which ROC NY supported. Combining the efforts of our ROC members and partners in NY, CA and D.C., they were successfully instrumental in winning over 2 billion for excluded workers. 15 per hour for federal contractors. The minimum wage for federal contract workers, including restaurant and food service workers on federal grounds, was raised to 15 per hour. Thanks to the organizing efforts of ROC United, nearly 500 worker members sent their public comments well over half of the total public comments the DOL received. ROC United created a federal contractors microsite, along with a social media toolkit and graphics that we posted for more than a month. |
