FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRODUCES AND DISTRIBUTES A VISITOR'S GUIDE AND A MAP OF THE OGUNQUIT AREA. THEY ARE FREE TO VISITORS AND MAILED OUT IN RESPONSE TO INTERNET AND TELEPHONE REQUESTS. THE GUIDE OFFERS SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO SEE AND DO AND WHERE TO DINE, SHOP, AND STAY IN THE LOCAL AREA. INFORMATION SUCH AS BIKING RULES AND WALKING PATHS IS ALSO INCLUDED. THE MAP IS DISTRIBUTED BY MEMBER BUSINESSES AND AT MUNICIPAL PARKING LOTS. APPROXIMATELY 35,000 GUIDEBOOKS AND 25,000 MAPS ARE PRODUCED EACH YEAR. CHRISTMAS BY THE SEA IS A TOWN-WIDE EVENT CREATED TO DRAW BUSINESS TO OGUNQUIT DURING THE TRADITIONALLY SLOW SEASON. THE EVENT BRINGS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO TOWN IN DECEMBER. THE EVENT WAS FIRST HELD IN THE LATE 1980S. THE PATRIOTS DAY EVENT SIGNIFIES THE UNOFFICIAL START OF THE ANNUAL TOURIST SEASON. THE EVENT HAS A PATRIOTIC THEME AND DRAWS SEVERAL THOUSAND VISITORS TO OUR TOWN. DOWNEAST MAGAZINE NAMED THE EVENT "THE BEST DISPLAY OF PATRIOTISM" IN THE STATE OF MAINE. MANY RESIDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT BY DRESSING IN COSTUME WHICH SERVES TO ENHANCE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE RESIDENT POPULATION AND BUSINESS OWNERS OF OGUNQUIT. THE EVENT WAS FIRST HELD IN 1990. OGUNQUITFEST IS OUR ANNUAL EVENT HELD AT THE END OF OCTOBER. IT DRAWS RESIDENTS AND VISITORS INTO TOWN FOR THE FALL SEASON. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT, GHOSTLY TOURS AND PUMPKIN DECORATING.
