Grantmaker's Description of How Grants are Used Explanation of grant qualifications:The Society sponsors several research grants both as an individual society and in conjunction with the American Academy of Otolaryngoloy-Head and Neck Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.Pilot grants are open to residents, fellow and junior faculty for pilot research in head and neck cancer-related topics. These awards are offered to support outstanding clinical and basic science research in head and neck oncology.Young Investigator Awards are open to fellow and assistant professors to support research in neoplastic disease of the head and neck.The Surgeon-Scientist Career Development Award is granted to support a collaborative AHNS/AAO HNSF research project in contemporary basic or clinical research skills focused on neoplastic disease of the head and neck amoung new full time academic surgeons. The Ballantyne Resident Research Grant is awarded for the best grant application by a resident.
