PART I, LINE 2: THESE CONTRIBUTIONS ARE NOT COMPETITIVELY AWARDED GRANTS, BUT RATHER PROVIDED TO SPECIFIC NON-PROFIT PARTNERS TO FACILITATE JOINT WORK. IN MOST OF THE CASES, THE GRANTS ARE PROVIDED TO SMALL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS WITH LIMITED CAPACITY. WE SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING OUTLINING MUTUAL EXPECTATIONS GOVERNING OUR WORKING RELATIONSHIP, INCLUDING GRANT AMOUNT. WE MONITOR THE USE THE GRANT FUNDS THROUGH REQUIRING WRITTEN REPORTS OR THROUGH OUR ONGOING WORK, FOR EXAMPLE THE RECEIPIENT'S PARTICIPATION IN COALITATION MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES, BY PUBLISHING A REPORT TOGETHER OR COLLABORATING ON AIR MONITORING STUDIES. FRIENDS OF THE EARTH ALSO OCCASIONALLY PROVIDES GENERAL DONATIONS TO OTHER 501C3 ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE CLOSE ORGANIZATIONS PARTNERS. THE GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE EARTH (ACTION), INC. WAS MADE PURSUANT TO A WRITTEN GRANT AGREEMENT RESTRICTING THE USE OF THE GRANT FUNDS FOR THE GRANTEE'S CHARITABLE PROGRAM.
