This case has huge implications for our nation's waters. If the plaintiffs are successful, polluters would once again be allowed to discharge their wastes into upstream waters, threatening habitats, wildlife, vulnerable communities, and public water supplies downstream.
We've made huge progress in cleaning up and protecting our nation's waters because of the Clean Water Act. Still, this progress isn't guaranteed. We should be doing more—not less—to ensure that clean water access is a reality for ALL Americans.
