Vermont’s seven-day average positivity rate has fallen to 1.9%, among the lowest in the nation. This is good news, but we must all remain vigilant as we ramp up vaccinations for our vulnerable. The better we do now, the sooner we will be able to begin turning the spigot again.

Those who are older are more vulnerable have always been there for us. Now it’s our turn to be there for them. 11/11

So to all Vermonters, as we wait for our turns for the vaccine, let’s continue to do our part to slow the spread. I know pandemic fatigue is real, but the better we do now the more we control the virus and the quicker we’ll end this state of emergency. 15/15

Phase 2 will begin on Jan. 25 with an age banding approach, starting with those who are 75+ as well as those with chronic conditions. This approach is about vaccinating those more likely to die from COVID to protect them as early as possible, all with the goal of saving lives. 4/

But as Vermonters have each and every time history has demanded, we rise with that stubborn sense of duty and concern for one another. We’ll have scars to show and stories to tell but that will only make us stronger. And once more, together, we will rise. 45/

I just gave remarks to a virtual joint assembly of the Legislature. I had the honor of being the first Governor in state history to begin with these words: "Madam President, Madam Speaker, Madam President Pro Tem." Congratulations to @LtGovGray, @JKrowinski and @BeccaBalintVT!

Like many of you, I was happy to ring in the new year & put 2020 in the rear view. But we still have more to do as we work to distribute vaccines. Every day we lose more Vermonters to the virus. I feel the responsibility squarely on my shoulders and take each death personally. 3/
