4/ In the case of this new virus that causes #COVID19, around half of the people who have it actually feel and look fine. They have NO symptoms or are “asymptomatic.” You won’t know that you or someone standing next to you has the virus, and is capable of spreading it.

5/ Once scientists realized this new #coronavirus behaved differently than anything we'd seen before, recommendations on masks changed. Current research/ data now tells us 1️⃣of the most effective ways to prevent #COVID19 spread is for as many people as possible to wear masks!

6/6 Scientists and health officials give the best advice they can based on available info- but when the data changes, so too must the advice. The high degree of asymptomatic spread of #COVID19 is why we all should embrace wearing as part of a safe & sustained reopening.

@JeromeAdamsMD
An important caveat- in some studies / data, some who were called “asymptomatic” (no symptoms), were later discovered to be either presymptomatic (developed symptoms days later) or mildly symptomatic. But the practical point is they still were out and infectious. Hence a
@FaceTheNation @margbrennan @JeromeAdamsMD (1/5) Thanks, Nancy. I often tell people that we are still learning something new about this virus on a daily basis. I think it’s likely here with us for the foreseeable future, but there’s a lot we can all do now to prevent the spread of the virus. https://t.co/9Twwxt6hPp

@Sifill_LDF And this... (I could go on, but that would be piling on- the point is, WaPo, NYT, CNN, 538, and many others thought this was a legitimate concern - until I said it. https://t.co/kvvibkHkBS

@Sifill_LDF So to be clear, were NYT, WaPo, 538 & StatNews all wrong when they said the same thing I did? I’m trying to promote masks with education while being sensitive to real concerns expressed by the black community in above outlets- you are just attacking me. Let’s work together!

@Parkerbees @Sifill_LDF Wait- what?! I usually don’t engage with tweets like this, but I was replying to a tweet from her that tagged me. In a thread where I was attacked. I respect and will work with anyone who wants to promote health! Wear a .

@LeilaniMunter FYI- My office doesn’t make up de novo recommendations, but rather shares best practices from other experts/ organizations. The truth is, that advice is what the CDC and the WHO were saying at the time, based on prior to experience with past coronaviruses https://t.co/WdueRNCk6f QT @JeromeAdamsMD: Health officials make recommendations based on the best available & current info. @Vote4Science734 @meganranney Must reiterate (and I always do) that no matter what your actively, you should still stay 6 feet apart whenever you can, and always wear a face covering.
Takeout & #Hamifilm tonight? Don’t miss #YourShot to encourage those around you to do their part to protect themselves & those around them this #July4 weekend. #COVIDStopsWithMe https://t.co/9Twwxt6hPp

A common health communications mistake is talking more about (and thus normalizing) behaviors you don’t know want /by the minority, vs lauding healthy behaviors by the majority. @politico surveying shows almost 80% are wearing face coverings in public! https://t.co/Gnx7Cjmb0N
JeromeAdamsMD (D.C.)
@JeromeAdamsMD
Same survey says most people (again ~80%) believe face coverings help slow the spread of coronavirus. Instead of feeding into the “noone else is doing it- so why should I” narrative, let’s help people understand that most Americans believe in and wear face coverings! https://t.co/s4SNN6LCUF

Been putting off elective surgery because of #COVID19, but finally getting it done today. Thanks to Donald, Taylor, Drs. Glister and Richardson, and the entire @FortMeadeMD team for keeping me safe! https://t.co/pnQhBrNeQV

@JeromeAdamsMD
They did a symptom and temperature check before we entered the building, and had to get a #covid19 test before surgery. The infection control practices at @FortMeadeMD have been top notch so far!
