That's why today, the House is considering H.R. 2543, the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act – a package of bills that would help promote racial and economic justice. Proud to support this important bill and I look forward to voting YES.
On average, Black and Latinx households earn about 1/2 as much as the average White household and own only 15-20% as much net wealth. Clearly, communities of color in the U.S. face disparities that Congress must work to reduce so that every family has equal economic opportunity.
Next week, World Relief is breaking ground on the Entrepreneurship Incubation Hub: a teaching and commercial kitchen that will be a multi-impact community space serving the refugee and immigrant population in South King County. Congratulations, @WorldReliefWWA!
During the FY 2022 appropriations process, I was proud to secure $637,000 in Community Project Funding for @WorldRelief in Seattle for their Entrepreneurship Incubation Hub. This week, I had the chance to meet with World Relief and hear more about their important work.
The strength of Washington Ninth's District is our diversity. I look forward to my continued work with @women_refugee to support immigrants and refugees in Washington's Ninth and beyond.
Following the tour, we sat down to discuss their main budget priorities. Last year, I successfully secured federal funding to help them operate an early learning center in the MLK Mixed Use Project in Rainier Valley, but more must be done to support their crucial work.
.@women_refugee provides critical services to immigrants and refugees in the Puget Sound Region to help them integrate into our community and thrive. Last week I had the chance to meet with the organization and receive a tour of their Early Learning Facility.
The virtual event will take place on Tuesday, May 31 at 6:00 PM PT. More information is available on my website: https://t.co/3abxhPmmmc REGISTER: https://t.co/S7uXARB34c
Join me for a panel discussion with leaders from abortion rights organizations in Washington State to discuss what we can expect in a post-Roe world here at home and in states across the country, including the broader implications of this decision for civil rights.
In the aftermath of the leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court showing the majority’s intent to overturn Roe v. Wade, millions of Americans are gravely concerned about the future of reproductive rights in our country.
What happened in Uvalde is devastating. We must do more to protect our communities and prevent mass shootings. Ending gun violence is possible, but we have to refocus our approach. I joined @SRuhle yesterday to talk about the best way forward. WATCH: https://t.co/hUMbFGOavh
RT @DougBaldwinJr: This is huge. Our Family First Community Center that is currently under construction in Renton (Yaa!) will benefit from… QT @RepAdamSmith: Last night, after many months of negotiations, I am incredibly proud that the House passed the government spending… https://t.co/v3RD1mGHMn)
Today, I toured @utopia_wa's Mapu Maia Clinic in Kent, which provides a range of resources for substance use and mental health services to members of the LGBTQI community, immigrants, and communities of color that face cultural barriers and exacerbated health disparities.
I recently submitted a Community Project Funding request for the FY 2023 appropriations process for the Mapu Maia clinic so they can expand upon the lifesaving work they are doing in our community. My full statement: https://t.co/8W8HAwC0tN https://t.co/3xDWcpHM38
Today the House passed H.R. 7309, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2022, which would reauthorize and strengthen our nation’s workforce development programs and make them more equitable for all individuals. My full statement: https://t.co/maKeBRlynN
There is no time to wait. The @EPA must take swift action to advance a zero-emissions transportation future in order to effectively address the climate crisis, safeguard clean air, and improve public health in our communities.
Federal leadership is needed to put the United States on a path towards a 100% zero emissions transportation future. That's why I am proud to be a cosigner of a letter to @EPAMichaelRegan urging @EPA to strengthen its proposed Clean Truck Rule.
