My advocacy on paid leave begins with a personal story. When I was hospitalized with pneumonia as a child, my parents took off work to care for me — and it nearly bankrupted us. No one should have to go through what my family did. Not in the richest country in the world. 2/4
But there’s still more work to do. Low-income workers have the lowest family leave utilization rates, showing that the promise of #PaidLeaveForAll has yet to be fully realized. We must further expand access to paid leave in CA & create a national PFML program for all Americans!
During my time in the CA Assembly, I was determined to make paid leave a reality for all Californians. I authored AB 908 — the most progressive expansion of paid leave in the nation — to ensure all who pay into this program can afford to use it, regardless of their income. 3/4
