I’ve spoken with several Community Action Agencies in Northwest Oregon about the increased demand for their services in light of this pandemic. These organizations are on the frontlines, offering holistic services that will help families survive this crisis.
I will keep fighting for more direct payments, expanded unemployment benefits, & support services for displaced & dislocated workers. For our economy to safely reopen, we need widespread testing, robust contact tracing, and supported isolation for people who test positive.
The devastating April #JobsReport reveals the magnitude of the economic consequences of #COVID19. People in Oregon and across the country are hurting, and the scale of this crisis demands immediate action. QT @NPR: 20,500,000. I have joined many of my colleagues in advocating for the next stimulus package to include monthly payments during this emergency to everyone making less than $135,000. The payments will not count as income for programs like Medicaid and SNAP.
Importantly, the package includes my bipartisan proposal to give USDA and states the flexibility they need to help schools and districts across our nation deliver meals to students during closures caused by #COVID-19.

Public health officials in Oregon have been working around the clock to respond to the #coronavirus. I’m continuing to do all I can to secure the federal funding and support they need to contain the spread. https://t.co/31Oda0xnpj
Older Americans cared for us & supported our communities throughout their lives – now it's our turn to care for them. I’m proud to lead a bipartisan effort to revitalize the programs & services that support nearly 11M aging Americans & their caregivers. =https://t.co/juC3pPvHPq
Their powerful story is featured in @NickKristoff’s & @WuDunn’s book Tightrope, on the challenges we face in Oregon and across the country: the opioid crisis, rising suicide rates, & a broken promise of opportunity for everyone.
