Response of Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas)

SEE MORE ABOUT LLOYD DOGGETT

Represents Texas's 37th Congressional District. He is serving his fifteenth term in the House.

The Questions

  1. Are hate crimes a problem in your state?
  2. Should Congress do something about hate crimes and white supremacist violence in your state? If so, what specifically?

The Response

1. "Yes." 2. "I support House bills to strengthen Justice and Homeland Security units responsible for addressing this threat, improving hate crime and domestic terrorism reporting, and denying guns to those convicted of hate crimes. But what’s needed most is to end Leader McConnell’s death grip on background check legislation and for Trump to end his racist, hate speech, which is inspiring violence. If we cannot disarm the hate, we should at least disarm the weapons of war."
