Represented Oregon's 5th Congressional District. He served 7 terms in the House. He left the House in 2023.

The Questions

  1. Are hate crimes a problem in your state?
  2. Should Congress do something about hate crimes and white supremacist violence in your state? If so, what specifically?

The Response

"Hate crimes are certainly a problem in Oregon and recent reporting suggests that they are on the rise. I support the bipartisan No Hate Act, introduced by my colleague Don Beyer of Virginia, which I previously cosponsored in 2017. This bill would create a reporting system for hate crimes, provide grants to states for reporting hotlines and allow for additional penalties to include education classes and community service. There is no place for white supremacy or hate in the state of Oregon."
