Senator from Virginia. He has served 15 years in the Senate.

The Questions

  1. Are hate crimes a problem in your state?
  2. Should Congress do something about hate crimes and white supremacist violence in your state? If so, what specifically?

The Response

"The surge of hate crimes and white supremacy is a problem not only in Virginia, but across our nation. And unfortunately, it's a problem that will only keep getting worse as bad actors continue to misuse social media platforms to spread hatred, divide communities, and radicalize others at a greater and faster rate than ever before. People in America have the right to feel safe, no matter what their background, how they worship, or who they love. Congress can and should work to protect all Americans by passing a piece of legislation I introduced to honor victims of hate crimes. The Khalid Jabara-Heather Heyer NO HATE Act would make it easier to report and record hate crimes, helping create a more clear picture of the threats facing neighborhoods nationwide. It would also support law enforcement in identifying and going after these crimes in Virginia and in states all over the country."
