Conflict of Interest
Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

abSynapTex, LLC
Equity Interest - Non-publicly traded entity ( e.g., stock, stock option, or other ownership interest)
The TTUHSC Conflict of Interest in Research Committee (COIRC) has determined that Dr. Reddy has a conflict of interest as defined by HSC OP 73.09, Conflict of Interest in Research, as a consequence of his financial interest in abSynapTex, LLC., Lubbock, TX, a drug development start-up company that has a licensing agreement with Texas Tech University System (TTUS), and in which Dr. Reddy is a founding Principal, stockholder, Chief Scientific Officer, and consultant. The conflict derives from
the potential for Dr. Reddy to benefit financially from company and IP ownership interests that could be influenced by results of ongoing research in his laboratory.
Dynamin-Related Protein 1 and Mitochondrial Fragmentation in Alzheimer's Disease
Mitochondrial dysfunction is a major hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Mitochondria play an important role in neurons and maintain the balance of mitochondrial fission and fusion. The objective of the proposed research is to determine whether Drp1 interactions with amyloid beta and with hyperphosphorylated tau affect Drp1 enzymatic activity and alter mitochondrial morphology, distribution, and function in AD neurons, and whether partial loss of Drp1 decreases amyloid beta and hyperphosphorylated tau-induced mitochondrial fragmentation, neuronal damage, and synaptic dysfunction.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.
ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
