Development of a Dual and Selective Small Molecule Inhibitor of EGFR and PI3 Kinase to Treat BRAF Mutant Colorectal Cancer
There is an urgent need to develop more effective therapies to improve the low survival rate for metastatic colorectal cancer. The prognosis for colorectal cancers that harbor BRAF mutations is especially poor. MTX-211 represents a novel experimental agent that is the first reported selective inhibitor of EGFR and PI3 kinase, which are key signaling molecules implicated in the progression of BRAF mutant colorectal cancer. This project incorporates a mouse trial of colorectal BRAF mutant tumor models established from patient specimens to seek preclinical proof of concept for clinical development of MTX-211 in this patient subpopulation.
