Based on WU’s Research COI Policy and the Procedures for Determining and Managing Research Financial Conflicts of Interests, the CIRC determined Dr. Marcus’s personal financial relationship with Radiologics, related to the above referenced research, creates a financial conflict of interest due to the following reasons:
• His personal financial relationship is directly related to the subject of the research because the study is utilizing a product owned by Radiologics, X-NAT.
• The results of the study could influence how X-NAT is perceived by consumers, and therefore could affect the value of the services provided by Radiologics.
• His role as principal developer of the X-NAT technology, as well as his roles in design of the study; collecting, analyzing, and reviewing the data; reporting the results; oversight of the
research and supervising individuals involved with the research, could directly affect the study.
DOMINANTLY INHERITED ALZHEIMER NETWORK TRIAL: AN OPPORTUNITY TO PREVENT DEMENTIA
The proposed grant will initiate a trial of 3 anti-amyloid drugs in individuals with known causative mutations for dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although this dominantly inherited form of AD is rare, the symptoms and brain changes are similar to those observed in the far more common late-onset sporadic AD. The results of the trial provides a test of the amyloid hypothesis, and may delay, prevent or reverse cognitive impairment from AD.
