What happened in Tampa today

Obama - Biden --

Today the Republican Party approved a platform that The New York Times called "more aggressive in its opposition ... to gay rights than any in memory."

The intolerant document calls for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. It condemns President Obama for not defending the Defense of Marriage Act. The platform fails to recognize civil unions for gay couples, and it rejects the "use of the military as a platform for social experimentation" -- a veiled dig at the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

This platform, which was written at the direction of Mitt Romney's campaign, defines the Republican Party today.

It's a sharp reminder of what we stand to lose if Romney and Ryan take the White House this November. One party supports our right to be equals in the eyes of the law, the other rejects it.

There is a clear choice in this election for the LGBT community and allies.

We've got to fight for the only candidate who has our back. Join Obama Pride on Dashboard, the campaign's online field office, and stay informed about campaign news, events, and opportunities to volunteer:

302 high-dollar Romney donors in Seattle

As you're watching or hearing about the Republicans' convention this week, here's some food for thought:

There are 109,025 people from across the country who have donated $X or more to the Romney campaign or the Republican party in the 2012 election cycle.

That's 109,025 people who are standing with the party that wants to give tax breaks to the ultra-rich and let the middle class foot the bill, roll women's rights back to the 1950s, and turn Medicare into a voucher system.

We're facing a big fundraising deadline on Friday.

Help the Obama supporters in your neighborhood keep it close -- give $X or more today:

The Republicans are going to outspend us, for sure -- but you and your neighbors can help close the gap, right now.

One of our last deadlines

Mitt Romney and the Republicans are enjoying an uninterrupted national spotlight to make their case to millions of people.

But the number that really matters right now is how many people can chip in before the critical August fundraising deadline -- it's one of the last we have.

We're within striking distance of 3 million individual Americans giving to President Obama's 2012 campaign.

We're getting close to that milestone because of folks like you, and more people are pitching in every day. But the fact is that winning requires those of us who can to dig a little deeper, and give a little more.

It's up to you. Will you make a donation of $X or more right now?

What you do right now will have a bigger impact on the outcome on November 6th than anything going on in Tampa.

You won't get many more of these emails...

Take a deep breath and savor this -- because it's one of the final deadline emails you'll see from me.

And it's definitely the most critical fundraising deadline of President Obama's re-election campaign so far. We have only 10 more weekends for volunteers and organizers to get out there and talk to voters. The sooner we can get them the resources they need, the better.

If you can pitch in $X or more to support President Obama and the millions of Americans who've got so much on the line in this election, please do it now:

Thank you so much for all you're doing -- less than 70 days to go!

Channel your frustration - productively

If you've been watching the Republican National Convention, you've probably seen speaker after speaker promise to repeal Obamacare, give tax breaks to people who don't need them, drag women's rights back to the 1950s, and attack President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Doesn't it just make your blood boil?

Don't get mad. Get active. Log on to the campaign's call tool, and make sure every single woman knows exactly what's at stake. As people are starting to see what a Romney-Ryan presidency would mean, they're standing with the candidate who's fighting for them. By spreading the word, we can deliver a win for President Obama.

All you have to do is log in now and make a few calls. It's that easy:

[url]

If you're not watching, here's what you're missing: Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan want to repeal Obamacare, allowing insurance companies to discriminate and charge women more for health care, simply for being women.

They want to turn Medicare into a voucher system, which could force seniors to pay thousands more for their care.

The Romney-Ryan budget could destroy education funding by cutting programs like Head Start by 20%, and slashing Pell Grant funding for 10 million students.

It only gets worse: Romney's tax plan would raise taxes for the middle class in order to pay for tax cuts for while millionaires and billionaires.

If you're as fired up as I am, pick up the phone. The best way to support President Obama -- and fight back against the Republican Party -- is by making sure every single person knows what the consequences of this election could be. We can make that happen:

If the President loses...

Judging from the number of times they've said it this week, you would think repealing Obamacare on Day One is the most urgent goal of the Republican Party and number one reason to elect Mitt Romney.

I'd like to know what's noble about making it harder for people to get health care.

President Obama refused to give up on this legislation because he knew it was about real people -- people like his own mother who, in her final days, battled cancer and the insurance company, or my daughter Lauren, whose intractable epilepsy, at just seven months old, nearly bankrupted our family and burdened her with a pre-existing condition that threatened her future coverage.

Today, there are millions of families like ours who won't have to suffer through needless heartache over situations beyond their control.

If the President loses, Republicans are guaranteeing those protections will be gone with him.

You can make sure that doesn't happen. Donate $X or more before this Friday's critical FEC deadline.

When the Supreme Court affirmed the Affordable Care Act, I was moved to tears. This week, the Republicans are moving a lot of people to act as well -- to make sure they can't take their destructive platform to the White House.

The next time you hear someone at the Republican convention attack Obamacare, remember what they're actually trying to take away:

Thanks for standing with the President.

Did you hear?

Yesterday the Republicans approved their platform. It is simply wrong for young Americans like you.

But we shouldn't be surprised, because remember who's on the Republican ticket. This guy:

Romeny's advice to paying for college: Just borrow the money.

And this guy:

Paul Ryan would cut your Pell grants.

What Paul Ryan said

Earlier this week, one of Romney's senior advisers said: "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."

At least they told the truth there.

Tonight, we saw the Republican candidate for vice president of the United States get up on one of the biggest stages in politics, and make a case for himself and Mitt Romney based on a huge collection of lies we've already heard -- the ones about Medicare, the debt, and the deficit -- plus a few new ones for good measure. What you didn't hear? Not one single constructive idea that they would bring to the table.

But if you thought that was bad, get ready for what's to come. The other side is already planning to spend hundreds of millions of dollars trashing the President, and it's not going to get any better.

Stand with President Obama now, before Friday's critical deadline. Chip in $X or more:

If you've seen any coverage of Paul Ryan's speech in Tampa, you know that the consensus among journalists and independent observers is that it was ... factually challenged.

He lied about Medicare. He lied about the Recovery Act. He lied about the deficit and debt. He even dishonestly attacked Barack Obama for the closing of a GM plant in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin -- a plant that closed in December 2008 under George W. Bush. He also failed to offer one constructive idea about what he would do to move the country forward.

Don't roll your eyes. We can't just groan and shrug and remark to our like-minded friends that this is ridiculous, because this is a significant moment in this campaign.

The fact that this speech, on this huge stage, is this blatantly false represents a huge bet by the Romney campaign -- they've decided that facts, truth and reality will not be a brake on their campaign message. And they just signaled to the extremist billionaires and corporate interests that support them that they should go ahead and spend their hundreds of millions of dollars attacking Barack Obama with whatever lies can work.

The only thing that can beat this back is you:

More soon.

My husband

To view this email as a web page, go here.

Nicholas,

I am so excited to be at the Republican National Convention with my family and friends as my husband Mitt Romney becomes the Republican presidential nominee.

This is the man America needs during a time of debt and despair.

This is the man who will wake up every day with the determination to solve the problems that others say can't be solved, to fix what others say is beyond repair.

This is the man who will work harder to give all Americans an opportunity to prosper.

I can't tell you what will happen over the next four years. But I can tell you:

This man will not fail.

This man will not let us down.

This man will lift up America!

And with your help, this man -- my husband -- will be the next President of the United States of America.

Donate today to make it happen for Mitt, Paul, and the Republican team: [url] Thank you,

Ann Romney

Extremism

This week, Republicans are gathering in Tampa for their convention, posing for the cameras, falling over each other to prove who's the most severe conservative of them all. There's plenty of angry, misleading rhetoric, but not much in the way of real action or results.

Here's what Democrats are doing this week:

-- Welcoming volunteers to hundreds of field offices in all 50 states      -- Logging hundreds of thousands of volunteer-hours of one-on-one voter outreach, over the phone and at the door      -- Organizing thousands of watch parties for our convention next week

That's just one week for our organization, and it's only going to get more intense from here. Because that's the only way we'll win.

Help make sure we have the resources to get it done by pitching in $X before our critical fundraising deadline on Friday.

Republicans are in the middle of four days of Obama-bashing and truth-distorting attacks -- and they're hoping it will give them a badly needed bump in the polls. The reality is, we're probably going to see it come true over the next couple days. When the Republicans leave Tampa, it's pretty likely they'll be ahead in the horse race.

That's why Democrats aren't wasting any time.

Our organizers and volunteers are working nationwide and around the clock to get our message out. While Republicans are ramping up the attacks and extremism, we're doubling down on our grassroots strategy. For us, the convention is an opportunity to share our message face to face with as many Americans as possible, culminating in a week of grassroots action immediately after the President officially accepts the nomination.

We're building our organization for the only polls that matter: the ones on November 6th. Your support now, before our fundraising deadline on Friday, is critical to making that happen. Donate $X or more today:

Tonight

Don't watch Paul Ryan's convention speech tonight. I'll tell you what he'll say right here, right now:

He'll honor the Republican Party, which just adopted Todd Akin's ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape as part of its official platform. He'll promise to restore our country's “traditional values,” like denying same-sex couples the right to enter into marriage. And he's going to tell a roaring crowd that Mitt Romney will be the next president.

He'll do it knowing this race is a dead heat after bombarding President Obama day after day with secret, special-interest money from billionaire financiers.

Ryan understands how high the stakes are right now, and I know you do too. The most important deadline of this election hits in 48 hours, so let's condemn Ryan by raising $X before his speech at 10 PM. Can you contribute $X?

If Democrats can't respond right now, Ryan and Romney will win the key swing states they need to take over the White House and Senate.

60 seconds

Here's something a United States Senator rarely can ask or do: Give me just 60 seconds of your time. Only 60. That's all the time I need to tell you where we stand.

In just seven hours, Paul Ryan is going to take the stage at the Republican convention, and I bet he won't trumpet publicly his "grand" party's pledge to pass Todd Akin's ban on a woman's right to choose with no exception for rape -- or his party's pledge to deny marriage rights to same sex couples. But look for yourself -- those pledges are carved in stone in his party's platform.

So what you do before the FEC deadline in 48 hours is critical. Click here to contribute $X because you support women's rights, click here because you want to protect President Obama.

Here's what we know from the polls in the news: Romney and Ryan are ahead by two in Ohio, three in Virginia, one in Wisconsin, and one in Florida. The Washington Post reports these polls "show Romney asserting a lead…in a way he hadn't before." And we are only 48 hours away from the most important FEC deadline of this election.

You know what a Republican takeover of the White House and Senate would mean for our country. Please click here and contribute before this critical deadline.

I'll be blunt:

--

Tonight, Paul Ryan will deliver a nationally-televised speech at the Republican National Convention. I am here in Tampa to push back and set the record straight, and I need your help now.

You will hear a lot of attacks on President Obama and health care reform. But here's what Romney and Ryan won't tell the American people: What they won't tell us is the reality that the Romney-Ryan plan would slash Medicare benefits for seniors to pay for more tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.

These next 48 hours are critical to ensuring that voters have the facts on the Republicans' radical budget plans.

Stand with President Obama: Donate $X or more to the DCCC's Rapid Response Fund and your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar

If Romney and Ryan get their way, seniors' Medicare would be replaced with a voucher that drops in value as health costs rise. Seniors will have to eat rising costs while millionaires like Mitt Romney get a tax cut.

The Republicans, backed by their Super PAC allies and secret donors, will do anything they can to distort the truth about their Medicare plans and go on the attack against Obamacare.

As a former DCCC Chairman, I know that we have to respond quickly and forcefully. That's where you come in:

--

The Republicans are in all-out attack mode against President Obama this week. No surprise.

But here's what you should know: They're pulling out all the stops to fire up their right-wing donors because Friday is the most important fundraising deadline yet.

Big Oil billionaire David Koch was even given access to the convention floor yesterday!

Romney already has $X million in the bank, and after this week, it'll be a lot more. We have to keep pace. Everything we've built over the last four years could come crashing down if we falter at this critical moment. We can't let that happen.

Stand with President Obama: Donate $X or more to fight Republican attacks and elect a Democratic majority

We have to be able to fight back against all the corporate special interest-fueled attack ads that are flooding the airwaves.

If you've been waiting to give or if you were hesitant to give again, I'm here to tell you: this is our make-or-break moment.

Please don't wait until it's too late:
