In our line of work, being correct isn't enough.
We need to back that up with the money to make the case to the voters. And since the Supreme Court's decisions opening the floodgates for anonymous corporate campaign money for the right wing, we are in danger of having the truth drowned out in this election season.
Will you donate $X or more before the mid-year fundraising deadline hits tomorrow at midnight? [url]
This week's news has affirmed the wisdom of the choices we made when the Democrats last controlled Congress:
- The affirmation of the Constitutionality of the health care bill obviously repudiates those who tried to revive discredited Constitutional doctrines from the past to block progress. And it means that the wide number of benefits for millions of people that the bill includes will now be going fully into effect.
- On the front of financial reform, the success of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission CFTC ought to convince even the most rigid down the line defenders of deregulation that financial reform was necessary. This week, the CFTC achieved a $X million settlement with Barclay's Bank because of that institution's illegal manipulation in the derivative area.
So I write to ask you to do what you can to help the DCCC so that we can take back the House from the Tea Party and those who are intimidated by it -- and not just protect the gains of our 2009-2010 legislative work, but build on them.
