Based on documentation and interview, hospital staff failed to implement a patient's right to confidential treatment of their medical record.Findings:On 5/21/12 a hospital privacy investigation report was reviewed regarding outpatient diagnostic imaging records found on a side street of the hospital. According to the report, an employee of the hospital found an unsealed envelope on a public street with diagnostic imaging reports of 16 patients. The location was near the hospital's mailroom and was presumed dropped during processing.According to the hospital privacy officer, who was interviewed on 5/21/12, the reports were being sent to an outpatient clinic of the hospital and had the name, medical record number, and results of patients' X-rays.
