Report ID: PSETS0000105955, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Reported Entity: MILWAUKEE WI - 695

Issue:

Veteran complains that on November 20, 2013, at about 8:45 AM, local Police called into the facility and queried the identity of a Veteran as an Employee of the facility. Employee that received the call purportedly stated that the named person was not an Employee (of note: they are), but that they are a Veteran in our system.

Outcome:

06/13/14 According to the PO: "Originally, when the Veteran approached my office, he FOIA'd for a record of the phone call to our facility's VA Police from the local Police department. We had nothing. Then, over time, he was asking what our normal procedure would be if someone called in to VA Police. I gave him the routines, "we can confirm you're an employee by name, we can't as a Vet unless under these circumstances, etc." He brought up a letter and an audio CD of the hearing he had in court, recently, where the non-VA Police officer was on the stand, and testified that he called the VA trying to identify him as a Vet, before the receiver of the call (at 8:45AM on a Wednesday, to make it even easier to research, might I add) stated "he's not an employee, but he IS a Vet in our system." There is no authority to disclose the confirmation of a Vet's name from our registration package. The PO was only recently (today) made aware that there was an improper disclosure. The Vet thinks that the non-VA Police officer is lying about contacting the VA altogether 06/30/14: The Incident Resolution Service Team has determined that Veteran A will be sent a notification letter.
