Issue:
A Veteran and his estranged spouse have been separated for a number of years. Prior to his death, he married his caregiver. Both the estranged spouse and the caregiver/wife filed for VA benefits. A letter generated and mailed on January 17, 2014, should have gone to the home of the caregiver/wife. However, it was addressed to the home of the estranged spouse. The letter contained name of the caregiver/wife, monetary amount, dates of entitlement and the Social Security number of the deceased Veteran.
Outcome:
01/29/14: The caregiver/wife will receive a general notification letter.
