Issue:
A VHA employees personal Facebook page contains post by Employee on December 30 or 31 stating a Veteran/patient name, military rank, age, and that the Veteran receives care at the John Pershing VA Medical Center. The Facebook post references a YouTube video which will be checked. Based on Facebook post it appears Veteran may have been interviewed or shared his story with a national media source.
Outcome:
1/6/13: While this was not done with malicious intent, the employee posted more information about the Veteran than was discussed on the YouTube video (where the Veteran himself provided the information: this was a video recorded for Military TV cable channel). Therefore the name, age, rank and services the Veteran receiving were disclosed inappropriately. One Veteran will receive a notification letter due to PHI being disclosed.
