As a former teacher, I am extremely concerned about the @NYSEDNews proposed plan to reduce funding by an estimated $215 million.
Our children need strong programs in music, art, and guidance counseling- cutting these programs will hurt not only our families, but our society at large. We need answers, and we need to rectify this ASAP.
In 1972 our nation made one of its best investments when Title IX became law ensuring that discrimination based on sex does not stop anyone from participating fully in athletics. Today, Title IX supports countless women and ensures everyone stays in the game.
There’s still a great deal of work to be done to realize the gender equality in sports envisioned in Title IX. Too often women’s teams have vastly lower budgets, marketing, and quality of facilities. This lack of investment in women’s athletics has created a vicious cycle.
