An ugly part of campaigns is “call time,” a.k.a. “dialing for dollars.” I call across WI and the USA to share my campaign to be the first woman physician in the US Senate. And…ugh, I ask for contributions. As a doc, not a politician, I had no idea this was a thing. A thread: 1/6

3/6: I spoke with a frontline healthcare worker who described life during COVID, and his fatigue and stress. He was too worried about his student loan debt to donate. An elderly lady said she could donate in January after she paid for her prescriptions. These struggles are real.

5/6: Grassroots campaigns represent regular folks organizing for political change. It works, ask @AOC & @BernieSanders! I’m asking for something a little different. Please donate on behalf of the VOICELESS, folks who I will never get to call. These are the folks who need us most.

Reproductive justice does not only necessitate abortion access, it also means having universal childcare and parental leave. It means being able to raise a child in a safe and supportive environment. That’s what we are fighting for. #Battino4WISenate #BrighterTomorrow2022

4/6: What haunts me most are the people I can’t reach: those in poverty, parents trying to make it on minimum wage, folks fighting depression or addiction. How can we elect leaders to fight for them when the 1% write fat checks to candidates who will maintain the status quo?

Voter suppression is fundamentally undemocratic. To have a true democracy, where all voices are heard, voting must be completely accessible. Let’s make voter registration automatic & fight the voter suppression laws & gerrymandering that threaten our democracy. #Battino4WISenate
