Pam and I are sending our best wishes to the President and First Lady, and to the more the 46,000 Americans—and 450 Virginians—also diagnosed with #COVID19 yesterday. This virus is very real and very serious. Let’s continue to take care of each other by doing the right things.

Case numbers are rising in Hampton Roads, as are hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and emergency room visits related to #COVID19. And we are seeing a significant shift toward people 20 and younger testing positive. So, we are taking action to turn this around.
While Virginia has so far avoided the dramatic increase in cases that many other states are seeing, there continues to be a concerning rise in Hampton Roads and the Peninsula, where the test positivity rate is 10.8 percent—the rate for the rest of the Virginia averages 6 percent. https://t.co/iDg5BDxSEb
1️⃣ Starting Friday, no alcohol will be sold or consumed on site after 10 PM, and restaurants must close by midnight—this effectively closes all bars. 2️⃣ Indoor dining will be reduced to 50 percent capacity. 3️⃣ Social gatherings will be limited to 50 people.
These new restrictions take effect July 31 at midnight and will apply to the Cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Williamsburg, Newport News, Poquoson, James City County, and York County. This is about stopping the spread in Hampton Roads.
But even though these new measures are targeted at mitigating the spread of #COVID19 in Hampton Roads, everyone must remain vigilant. Let's ALL do the right thing and follow the guidelines: Wear a mask. Keep your distance. Wash your hands regularly. Stay home. Avoid crowds.
