It is in their memory that we must all do our part to protect our communities – and keep up the fight against COVID-19.
My heart is broken as we mark the tragic milestone of one million American lives lost to COVID-19. My prayers are with the families, friends, and loved ones who are hurting with their loss. That is why I couldn’t be more pleased to have delivered critical funding to CSUCI for the development of a new Indigenous Studies Program that will cover indigenous history, culture, arts, language, and natural resources.
I am very thankful for the advocacy, leadership, and partnership of President Yao and his team, who played a pivotal role in this specific project that will honor and recognize America’s first people and indigenous people throughout our region.
More importantly, this program will allow the voice of indigenous people to be centered and heard in an academic space – a narrative that has been historically missing in American colleges and universities.
#Ventura County’s history is deeply rooted with the Chumash people. The Chumash were not only stewards of these lands, but of the oceans as they traveled along our coasts and the Channel Islands. Today, over 25,000 indigenous people call the Central Coast home.

Specifically, the funding will help dredge two berths at the port and increase the overall efficient movement of goods through the freight network.
This significant funding will ensure that the Port of Hueneme can continue to build a stronger and cleaner future for our region.
The Port of Hueneme is an instrumental and thriving component of Ventura County, and I am proud to support the port’s efforts to carry out critical upgrades and improvements to its facilities and intermobility.
ICYMI: The Biden Administration recently announced a $5.1 grant for the @portofhueneme to make important infrastructure adjustments to reduce pollution, generate millions in revenue, and create hundreds of jobs across #VenturaCounty. https://t.co/rrfvL3nBxX

Once again, @HouseDemocrats delivering for the American people. Today, I proudly voted for the #BuildBackBetter Act – one of the most historic investments in America’s working families, our children, our economy, and our future. https://t.co/ck3OKCPPWO
This once-in-a-generation investment will restore our nation’s crumbling infrastructure, invest in our roads and bridges, public transit and rail, broadband and high-speed internet, and deliver clean and reliable drinking water to America’s families.
The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a critical component of President Biden’s bold action plan to invest in our nation’s future, good-paying American jobs, and in rebuilding our economy. https://t.co/jZn1dMTutR
