Thread: We are witnessing a profound mistake being made by the Minneapolis City Council. They have a veto-proof majority that has vowed to disband the police department. They have just told the citizens of CD5 they lack the leadership and skills to solve tough problems.

By simply throwing out our current policing system, that tells me they lack care and concern for our public safety system. We are a nation of laws and the laws must equally be enforced. There are common sense measures and steps that can be taken to address concerns.

By disbanding the police, it will lead unacceptable results in high crime areas further placing the citizens of Minneapolis and tourists at risk. These reckless actions will make our community far less safe and will lead to a significant impact to the economy.

Years will go by with a terrible implementation of the new public safety system and citizens will suffer for it. @IlhanMN should be embarrassed that she is supporting such a rash and dangerous decision.

Companies and tourist alike will not want to invest in and visit our community. Criminals will take advantage of a weak policing infrastructure to overtake our community. Government has never proven to be expedient at implementing anything.

I want to make one thing very clear. My opponent Ilhan Omar may think members of the National Guard are terrorizing people. I do not think that. The brave men and women of the National Guard are helping bring back peace to our communities!

Even @keithellison son declared his official support for ANTIFA and he’s a local elected official. Thread: Watching the video of the death of George Lloyd, I could not help but think about the inhumanity and injustice being witnessed. Regardless of resisting arrest, or anything I can think of, that may have gone before the cell phone video began...

What kind of culture exists where a team of police officers can take part in such an incident without apparent fear or concerns about the consequence? How is it that no other officer stepped in to stop it? The officers have been fired and held accountable.

However, to hear and see out leaders from Mayor to City Council to Chief of Police stand up and say "It wasn't me. It was them." causes concerns. Take responsibility. Be accountable. Until you do, the chance of preventing future such incidents is seriously diminished.

Leadership sets the culture. "Them" are also me. I feel a sense of personal responsibility to help end such incidents. More on short term and long term solutions at the appropriate time. There is so much understandable hurt and pain being felt.

My sympathy and condolences go out to the family of George Lloyd. I pray that justice and peace prevail.
