The decision to rescind the proposed 2020 Arctic rule will have detrimental impacts on our energy security, economic security, and conservation efforts that are supported by oil and gas revenues.
Today in a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Cmte hearing, I questioned the Director of the @BOEM_DOI Lefton to explain the administration’s decision to update the so-called “Arctic Rule” completely disregards the latest science regarding offshore resource development. https://t.co/8qK7WB5r4V
Most Americans are unaware that the Land and Water Conservation Fund is funded by of offshore energy development revenues, or that the Great American Outdoors Act – which funds restoration, conservation, and resilience projects – relies entirely on oil and gas revenues. https://t.co/YCzgqV3GhN
A strong blue economy will offer opportunities for supporting our coastal communities & residents-- sustainably putting more nutritious seafood on tables & developing better processes for managing transportation, energy development & recreation in our coastal & marine zones. https://t.co/dWGuusdoRN
Our bill harnesses innovation, takes action to strengthen the federal maritime workforce & drives the development of new marine technology— advancing data collection & supporting responsible stewardship and economic utilization of America’s oceans, bays, Great Lakes & estuaries. https://t.co/uQP3tNWb2z
Yesterday the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee advanced the BLUE GLOBE Act, my bipartisan bill with @SenatorWhitehouse. https://t.co/uBfuE1bdS6
Anything we can do to help enhance cybersecurity—no matter what the scale—is a step in the right direction.
I introduced the PROTECT Act, which incentivizes electric utilities to make cybersecurity investment & provides grants & technical assistance to smaller utilities not regulated by FERC, including many smaller isolated utility providers throughout #Alaska. https://t.co/EkJPcePBGO
The cyberattack on Colonial is an example of yet another brazen attack on our nation’s infrastructure and the impacts everyday Americans could see as a result. This is a threat I have been warning about throughout my tenure on the Senate Energy Committee.
The message I shared during an August 2020 hearing for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on the importance of improving the cybersecurity of the energy sector remains true today.
Thanks to everyone, including members of my staff, who joined me in taking part in Anchorage’s citywide cleanup. It’s a great excuse to get outside and keep Alaska beautiful. Every little bit helps! https://t.co/0W3hh4cgbG
Today is the beginning of the National Week of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. I encourage everyone to find your own way to take action, raise awareness, and help turn the tide of this crisis. #MMIWG https://t.co/TPxbeTa9DV
Big 30th birthday for our oldest son Nic. Verne and I are blessed to have sons that are good and kind men. Happy Birthday Nic! https://t.co/tF9qqv9QZn
Right now I'm speaking on the U.S. Senate floor about our national security and global competitiveness, particularly as they relate to domestic resource development. Tune in here: https://t.co/i6agRvx77A
In Alaska, #COVID19 has unfortunately exacerbated the challenges of homelessness. Through efforts at the local level as well as my work to address homelessness in the recent COVID relief package, I hope this vulnerable population will see significant relief. https://t.co/yBJwgrAsPz
While in Anchorage, I joined Lisa Saunder, CEO of Bean’s Café, the nonprofit operating the shelter, for a visit to the Sullivan Arena which has served as a temporary shelter for those experiencing homelessness throughout the #COVID19 pandemic. https://t.co/ZFu16dgele
The Alaska Space Grant Program at @UAFairbanks stipends students majoring in STEM & supports extensive research projects. Our bill backs that good work by increasing teaching, research & education in the fields of aerospace, earth science, and other NASA related disciplines.
Thank you to Anchorage forensic nurse Tara Henry for joining us today to speak to the need for this legislation in Alaska and how we must ensure all victims of sexual assault have a path to justice—regardless of where they live.
I also raised a number of Alaska specific issues, including America’s strategic role in the #Arctic, Canada’s recent cruise ship ban, the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies, America’s reliance on foreign production of critical minerals, and US-China trade relations.
