Yesterday, someone came up to me at a public event & gave me a handwritten letter asking whether I was born in the United States & demanding proof of my naturalization. This is why we need immigrants at the highest levels of office.

Last year, I worked with Councilmember @Javiera4Durham, another immigrant woman, to establish a Refugee & Immigrant Services Coordinator position in Durham, the first of its kind in North Carolina. We now have a staffer devoted to supporting our newly arrived residents.

After our parents immigrated to the US and sacrificed so much for us, we wanted to build on that legacy and continue the American dream by starting a family. As I shared months ago, it's been a long, challenging road. But we couldn't be happier than we are today.

The IPCC says we have less than 10 years left to prevent irreversible damage to our planet. This is an existential threat, and we MUST come together to protect our future generations.

Seeing the terrible way that GOP senators have treated Judge Jackson in this hearing—some who have spent time as lawyers, judges and justices themselves—makes me hopeful for the day I’ll be able to call an experienced and principled jurist like @CheriBeasley our senator.
