1 in every 10 calls for police response involves a person suffering from a mental illness, and in most places around the U.S. operators have no choice but to deploy police officers to every scene, regardless of whether they are equipped or trained to handle these situations.
Thank you Efren and all other small business owners and entrepreneurs in Washington's Ninth District and across the country for your commitment to creating jobs, growing the economy, and strengthening our communities.
Efren began his businesses in 2012, sourcing fresh “green” coffee from African producers and exporters for distribution among Seattle-area retail stores. Now, @BoonBoonaCoffee roasts more than 100,000 pounds of coffee per year and employs a staff of 20 across two locations.
All this has been done with an environmental justice lens, launching efforts to serve communities that have been disproportionately overburdened by the impacts of climate change, including $50 million specifically for critical @EPA environmental justice initiatives.
Last year, Congress passed & @POTUS signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, representing the largest investment ever in power grid upgrades & clean energy, EV charging stations, clean transportation, pollution clean-up, clean water & lead pipe replacement, & climate resilience.
.@POTUS has restored our global climate leadership and taken a whole-of-government approach across all sectors to generate record levels of clean energy, electrify our infrastructure, reduce emissions, clean up pollution, improve weather resiliency & conserve our wildlife.
The administration has set ambitious climate goals, including: -50% electric vehicle sales by 2030 -Reduce aviation emissions 20% by 2030 -Conserve 30% of U.S. lands & waters by 2030 -100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 203 -Reduce global methane emissions 30% by 2030
Since taking office, the Biden-Harris administration has made incredible strides to combat the existential threat of our time - climate change - while building a stronger, more resilient economy. [INSERT THREAD EMOJI]Here are just a few of the admin’s climate accomplishments:
In Congress I am committed to fighting for the health of our communities and our planet. On Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET I'm hosting a virtual town hall to discuss the threats facing our environment and what steps we can take to address them.
I hope you will join me for this important discussion. Register for the event here: https://t.co/J4WEgT23Mi https://t.co/WfEyPvVJyR
Judge Jackson brings to the Court her immense qualifications - from her time as a public defender to her service on the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals - and her unique and diverse perspective as the first Black woman to ever serve on the Court.
Congratulations, Judge Jackson on your historic confirmation. I am confident you will serve our nation with the highest commitment to our American principles of liberty, freedom, and equal justice under the law.
Last week, @repdavidscott, @RepSpeier, @RepJahanaHayes and I wrote a letter to @SecDef outlining recommendations to make the BNA as effective as possible in combatting food and financial insecurity for low-income servicemembers.
Emerging technologies require new approaches to partnerships that can help the United States take full advantage of innovation. AUKUS has major promise for U.S. national security interests in technology and in the vital Indo-Pacific region. https://t.co/MTqdfjs4tN
I strongly support the right of workers to come together and collectively bargain for better pay, better benefits, and better working conditions. I'm proud to stand with these workers and I extend my gratitude to them for the contributions they've made to our economy.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, airport workers – who are often Black, brown, and immigrants – have been on the frontlines, keeping our airlines and airports afloat. Yet some of these workers are struggling to get by.
Today, airport workers in my district – and across the country – are standing together to demand fair wages and better job conditions. #GoodAirports #UnionsForAll
The webinar will feature guest speakers from @SBAgov, @WashingtonPTAC, and @MBDA_Tacoma - we hope you will join us. Sign up for the event: https://t.co/IRSMTzHNE1
Today, on the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, I'm calling on Congress to pass the Sunshine Protection Act to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the country and to end the outdated practice of changing our clocks. I'm proud to co-sponsor this bill and I urge action.
The bill also includes funding to support Ukraine in their fight against Russia as Vladimir Putin continues his unprovoked and unlawful war. My full statement: https://t.co/xy5pXpvTuD
Today, @POTUS signed the government spending package into law, which will deliver billions of dollars to communities across the United States to help address challenges facing American families - such as health care, housing, child care, education, and job training.
The passage of this bill builds on the President Biden’s mission to hold Vladimir Putin accountable for Russia's unprovoked and unlawful invasion of Ukraine. I'm proud to support this bill as the U.S. government works to put pressure on Putin & stand with the people of Ukraine.
The bill will take three major steps: 1) Ban the import of Russian oil and energy into the U.S.; 2) Review Russia’s access to the @wto; & 3) Reauthorize & strengthen the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so that the U.S. can impose further sanctions on Russia.
As Vladimir Putin continues to wage his war of choice against Ukraine, the House today will vote on H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act. This critical bill will further isolate Russia from the global economy and weaken their economy.

Join me for my upcoming town hall on Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 PM PST. I’ll be answering your questions about what’s happening in Congress right now and what to expect in the year ahead. Register for the event below: https://t.co/J4WEgT23Mi
Now – because of this investment – electric vehicles will be an increasingly practical option for Americans with more convenient, reliable, and affordable charging. And this shift to EVs will also create good-paying union jobs. (2/2)
To fight the climate crisis, we must decarbonize the transportation sector. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests $7.5B in EV charging stations to #ElectrifyingAmerica with greener transportation. (1/2)

My bill will provide much needed certainty to impacted adoptees and ensure that these individuals have full access to their rights as American citizens. It's crucial that we work to advance this bipartisan piece of legislation. (3/3)
These individuals grew up here and started careers and families, but through no fault of their own, they never received citizenship and are living in uncertainty about their future. This piece of legislation will finally grant citizenship to these international adoptees. (2/3)
Due to a loophole in the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, many international adoptees who were brought to the U.S. as children were never granted citizenship. In response to this issue, I introduced the Adoptee Citizenship Act of 2021. (1/2)
Today, @POTUS signed an Executive Order making sexual harrasment a crime under the UCMJ — which expedites reforms Congress passed in the #FY22NDAA. This law dramatically changes how the military handles sex crimes, taking the prosecution of all sex crimes in the military away from the control of the military commander and putting this responsibility in the hands of qualified, independent, uniformed attorneys. (2/5)
Thanks the Guillen family's advocacy, and other longstanding advocates for survivors of the sexual assault crisis in the military, this law will create a strong pathway for survivors of sexual assault to achieve justice and for perpetrators to be held accountable. (3/5)
Thank you to all the advocates who pushed this bill forward. With the passage of this bill, we honor Vanessa and her legacy. Watch last night's event, including my remarks thanking the Guillen family for their tireless work: https://t.co/tn4QeNYgEn (5/5)
I was honored to join last night's event and speak to the success of the bill and the road ahead. The passage of this bill into law is a major accomplishment, but we still have more work to do to ensure that survivors of sexual assault are heard and protected. (4/5)
Yesterday, the family of Vanessa Guillen and other advocates for survivors of sexual assault celebrated Vanessa's legacy and the successful signing of the I Am Vanessa Guillen Act, which was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022. (1/5)
These bold reforms simply would not have been possible without the courage of survivors who came forward to share their stories — and the relentless advocacy of @RepSpeier. It’s now up to the Senate and @POTUS Biden to give these reforms the force of law. #FY22NDAA QT @HASCDemocrats: Accountability. Transparency. Independence. Justice. This bill also creates the crime of sexual harassment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice — and a special investigatory unit separate from the chain of command to investigate. (5/6)
This is a huge change that a lot of people didn’t really agree with, but ultimately went along with to get into this bill. To miss that opportunity, I think, would be a betrayal of our responsibility to the men and women who serve in the military. (6/6)
Here’s what I told @RulesDemocrats this afternoon: https://t.co/vuWUrXsyVM
The @EPA will make significant investments in our nation's infrastructure - most notably the single largest investment in water the federal government has ever made. This funding will protect regional waters, while ensuring communities have access to safe drinking water. (2/4)
I commend the @EPA for its readiness to help implement the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and strengthen the health, safety, equity, and climate resilience of communities across America. (4/4)
