@POTUS just signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law. I sat down with @CBS6 to talk about what this relief means for Central Virginia. https://t.co/QNw2QNu0V3
And thank you to UVA @Center4Politics Director @LarrySabato for supporting the TRUST in Congress Act, my bill to build transparency on Capitol Hill.
Americans should not have to worry that their elected officials may be considering their stock portfolios when making decisions, especially not while contending with a global pandemic and historic economic uncertainly. https://t.co/0zJKQzKjfA

As we continue to learn more about the warning signs that led up to the insurrection, we must investigate all suspicious activity that occurred inside and outside of the Capitol Complex. That’s why I’m joining my colleagues in calling for an immediate investigation. Inside the building, we barricaded ourselves against domestic terrorists who were there out of loyalty to one man — not loyalty to our country. 2/7
These terrorists did not succeed, and Congress completed its constitutional duty and confirmed the results of the 2020 presidential election. 3/7
For the sake of national healing, the preferred outcome would have been the outright resignation of the President. In the absence of this action, the VP & the Cabinet should have invoked the 25th amendment & protected our democracy. Neither of these paths were followed. 4/7
The President’s incitement of an insurrection is an impeachable offense — and in recent days, we have seen principled Republicans join the effort to uphold our oaths to the Constitution and protect our democratic republic. 5/7
Today is a solemn moment in our nation’s history — and this vote represents a united response to a disgusting act of brutality and sedition. 6/7
In the coming weeks, I look forward to welcoming an administration that will bring hope to our citizens, renew our sense of purpose, focus on the priorities of the American people amid the COVID-19 crisis, and ensure that those responsible for sedition are brought to justice. 7/7
My thoughts on today’s vote: Last week, we watched in shock & horror when extremists — inspired by the President’s months of lies and invigorated by the his speech earlier in the day — attacked the U.S. Capitol with aims to perpetrate violence & undermine our democracy. 1/7
We’ve now been informed that a Capitol Police officer has died from injuries sustained during yesterday’s violent insurrection. My prayers are with the fallen officer’s family and fellow Capitol Police in this unthinkable moment.
There are now conflicting reports as to whether the injured officer has died. I’m monitoring this situation and I am keeping all injured officers in my prayers.
