What we need is a bipartisan, independent commission (like the 9/11 Commission) to conduct a thorough investigation with full subpoena power. Our democracy went through a tragedy that day – finding out its root cause will help ensure an attack like that never happens again.

Going forward, there is no doubt that steps will be taken to better secure the Capitol and prevent an attack like this from happening again. But one question remains unanswered: the root cause of the January 6 attack.

The report highlighted much of what we already knew; our democracy was attacked & agencies from FBI & DHS, to leadership at the U.S. Capitol Police, failed to properly communicate. The attack was planned in plain sight online & proper steps to protect the Capitol were not taken.
