We must determine if this leak has implications for the company’s proposed Willow project in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, a 30-yr project that will include oil & gas drilling up to 250 wells, multiple pipelines, and facilities in close proximity to fragile habitats. 2/2
I joined w/my colleagues Natural Resources Committee (HNRC) Chair Grijalva & HNRC Oversight Chair Porter last week in sending a letter to ConocoPhillips requesting more info about the ongoing month-long gas leak at the Alpine Oil Field on Alaska’s North Slope. 1/2

I told both Secy. Haaland & NCA McCarthy that I think the Interior Dept must develop & articulate a long-term approach for managing & decreasing emissions from federal fossil fuel leases. Read my full statement here: https://t.co/gM4yexcYy4 2/2
Yesterday, I met with Dept. of Interior Secy. Deb Haaland & White House National Climate Advisor (NCA) Gina McCarthy. I touched on a variety of issues with both, starting with the critical need for the administration to tackle carbon emissions from public lands & waters. 1/2

Sadly, 33 passengers and 1 crew member unnecessarily died in the fire. We will hear testimony from Rear Adm. John W. Mauger, Asst. Comdt. for Prevention Policy, USCG, & Jennifer Homendy, Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board. 2/2
I look forward to participating in the House T&I’ Coast Guard subcommittee hearing on Monday that will look at USCG’s implementation of new small passenger vessel regulations that were created after the Conception dive boat caught fire & sank off the SoCal coast in 2019. 1/2
RT @AACOMGR: Thank you @RepLowenthal for working to put #gradstudent interest before #studentloan interest. #POSTGRADAct https://t.co/surpEXvpss
I voted last night to pass a historic bipartisan government funding bill that addresses many challenges: it will fully implement the bipartisan infrastructure law, help to lower costs for hardworking American families & provide critical aid to our Ukrainian partners. 1/2
In addition, I am pleased that $7.6 million for numerous 47th District community projects I advocated for and championed were included in the bill. [link to release] 2/2
We have a duty to protect the right of every citizen to vote. @POUTS is right. It’s time for the Senate to act and pass voting rights legislation.
My thoughts are with General Colin Powell’s family. As the first African American Secretary of State and the youngest Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he served as an inspiration to so many. Statues of those who voluntarily served in the Confederacy during the Civil War should not have a place of honor in the U.S. Capitol - that’s why I voted yesterday for H.R.3005, which will remove these statues from the Capitol once and for all. 1/2
This bill will also remove the Capitol bust of SCOTUS Chief Justice Roger Taney--who wrote the infamous 1857 Dred Scott decision which ruled that African Americans were not citizens of the US--and replace it with a bust of SCOTUS Justice Thurgood Marshall. #RemoveHate 2/2

This is a critical move, but only the Equality Act can enshrine these protections in law, as they should be. https://t.co/miPO9hYoRk

Second: President Trump has been totally disengaged for months while he whines Sec Mnuchin negotiated for him. If he wanted more relief spending, he could have pressured McConnell to act.
Third: by waiting until after the bill has passed to become involved, the president is recklessly risking huge disruptions to critical programs. If the bipartisanbill that congress overwhelmingly passed doesn’t become law, UI and eviction moratoriums expire. People will be hurt.
Forth: Either the president doesn’t understand the bill he complains about, or he is being dishonest. Emergency measures were combined with a routine government funding bill. Foreign aid programs are routine, and necessary—they don’t reduce our Covid response.
These funding bills prevent a government shutdown which would cripple our economy and our public health infrastructure in the middle of a serious crisis.
This week, we can swiftly boost payments to individuals, which my democratic colleagues overwhelmingly support. If Republicans are serious about supporting the president, they should join us!

Furthermore, I am encouraged by strong measures to make sure that our military plays a key role in the fight against climate change, and to remove the stain of the Confederacy from our bases. I will proudly vote to pass the NDAA and will oppose President Trump’s veto threat.

The Supreme Court dealt the Trump Administration a stinging blow when it declared that its attempt to subject DREAMers to deportation was arbitrary and capricious—but we need to enshrine real protections, and a path to citizenship, into law as soon as possible. #HR4
