Seeing others talk openly about what they experience and go through makes me feel that I’m not alone in a vacuum. There’s hope in people finding their voice and being outgoing and open, and that open line of communication is essential. #KojoForCongress

Joy for me is seeing my two girls. At seven and four, I see the growing opportunity out there for them. I see purpose outside of just being a parent. Doors are opening and things are happening for people that may have not happened before -- my daughters included.

That some people were so hateful or that their uncles couldn’t marry until recently. The conversations also gave me hope that they would be part of progress. #KojoForCongress

During the first phase of quarantine, I had many conversations with my children. We have conversations about racism and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. I surprised myself, not sugar coating much. It broke my heart to see them unable to make sense of where we were as a community.

Now, I love seeing others empowered to speak up and out -- whether about injustices, or change we’d like to see for our community and world. I’m a big advocate for mental health. I’ve experienced depression. #KojoForCongress

The theme of my story is possibilities. I often think of possibility and hope. I’m hopeful for people to find their voice -- myself included. While in the classroom, I felt that I had to stay pretty neutral in my opinions, not swinging too far one way or another.

Happy HuMonday! This week we sat down with Anna Smith owner of Empower Fitness. I own a fitness studio in Tulsa. Prior to the studio I had been a teacher for many years. I had never considered owning my own business; I thought I was meant to teach forever. #KojoForCongress https://t.co/phWuojFgRn
