Bio, via Environmental Protection Agency:
Prior to joining the EPA, Dr. Yamada was a Professional Staff Member on the United States House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology. As the Deputy AA for Research and Development Dr. Yamada advises the ORD senior leadership on overall program goals, objectives, policies, strategies and managerial approaches, and program plans. Dr. Yamada represents the Administrator and Deputy Administrator at various task force, panel, and committee on science and operational program activities related to the development of Agency science policies and regulations. Dr. Yamada has earned several fellowships and academic honors, including being selected as the 2011-2012 AAAS-AMS Congressional Fellow. From 2007-2011, Richard was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Michigan. His scientific research has focused on developing and testing mathematical models of transcription regulation, merging experimental data, numerical algorithms and theory. He also taught courses in both pure and applied mathematics and mentored the research projects of 13 undergraduate students. Richard received his B.S. with distinction from Yale University (majoring in both physics and mathematics). He received his MSc and PhD in applied mathematics from Cornell University. His doctoral thesis focused on developing mathematical models of transcription elongation dynamics
