Conflict of Interest
Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

Phillips Respironics
Payment for services (e.g., consulting fees, honoraria, paid authorship)
Dr. White has a financial interest in Phillips Respironics, which focuses on sleep and respiratory therapies, including medical devices related to same. Dr. White has received significant monies as a consultant from Phillips Respironics. This research project focuses on identifying the specific anatomic locations involved with OSA in individual patients; if successful, the research could be added to the current Phillips Respironics technology and therefore increase its value or the value of technologies currently in development. Based on the magnitude of Dr. White’s financial interest in Phillips Respironics and the close connection between the company’s interests and the research, the review panel determined that the financial interest could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of the research.
Clinical Methods for Determining the Site and Severity of Pharyngeal Collapse
PROJECT NARRATIVE The proposed research is relevant to public health because OSA is a major health concern that is inadequately treated with existing therapies. The NHLBI 2011 Sleep Disorders Research Plan states that ?studies are need- ed to identify clinically meaningful subtypes [of OSA], and algorithms informing the selection of optimal thera- peutic strategies.? Therefore, the search for patient selection criteria using reliable prediction methods is a high research priority. The proposed research directly addresses this important component of the NIH's mis- sion.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
