"Method of conception"

Mitt Romney's running mate, Paul Ryan, was asked this week about whether it should be legal for a rape victim to get an abortion.

His response: "I'm very proud of my pro-life record, and I've always adopted the ... position that the method of conception doesn't change the definition of life."

Doesn't the phrase "method of conception" make your skin crawl? Let's be clear: Ryan is saying that rape victims should be forced to carry their pregnancies to full term -- a position the Republican Party embraced when they wrote this year's platform.

If you're on Facebook, share this with your friends -- or forward this email along -- and make sure they know which candidate is on our side:

[url]

If it were up to Mitt Romney, you wouldn't hear another word about this issue. His campaign even asked one reporter not to bring up abortion, because they know the answer isn't one most voters want to hear.

This is about more than a comment on abortion or rape. It's about a party that has an extreme platform when it comes to choice -- which Romney-Ryan would not hesitate to carry forward.

It's our job to make sure all of our friends and family know exactly what the Republican Party stands for -- and which candidate is standing up for us:

This is how we could lose the election

Three months in a row, Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have trounced us. And they're using that cash to try to obliterate this entire campaign on the airwaves.

The pundits are saying this is how we could lose the election. You know what I say?

When you get knocked down, get up. There's no quit in America. There's nothing we can't do.

Let's go -- make a donation of $X or more today:

The pundits and talking heads are talking about how badly we're being outraised by the other side. You've heard it from us, too.

Three months in a row, Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have trounced our fundraising totals. And, along with allied outside groups, they're using that cash to try to obliterate our side on the airwaves, outspending us in some battleground states by margins of up to three to one.

This week, Barack and I need your help

Obama for America

The Republican National Convention is kicking off this week, where Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will lay out their plan.

They're going to call it bold, and they're going to call it gutsy.

But back where I come from, there's nothing gutsy about giving a millionaire another tax break. And there's nothing bold about gutting Medicare benefits and education for our kids.

Our guy has a backbone like a ramrod. He's willing to make tough calls and take the heat in order to do what's best for folks like you.

This week, we're facing the biggest fundraising deadline this campaign has seen, and one of the last.

_Barack needs your help. Make a donation of $X or more to re-elect the President today. _

Let me tell you a few things you won't hear the Republicans boasting about this week:

Ending the war in Iraq.

Ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Reforming the health care system to give hard-working, middle-class families the security they deserve -- so they know if they get sick, they won't get dropped or blocked from getting health insurance.

Rescuing the American auto industry and breathing new life into it, to the tune of a quarter of a million jobs and counting.

Nope, you won't hear the Republicans talking about any of those things this week, because they've fought against that progress every step of the way.

If you're looking for bold and gutsy, you've got it right here, in a man named Barack Obama. But all that will come to an end if we don't take action right now.

Make a donation to this campaign today:

Buckle up, friends. The Republican National Convention is starting.

This is Mitt Romney's moment in the spotlight, and you can bet he's going to take advantage of every second of free airtime to try and sell the American people an old clunker with a fresh coat of paint.

A lot of folks are going to be tuning in to this election for the first time, and we've got to make sure they don't buy it.

So if you can, donate $X or more today to show you're standing with our team.

If you thought we had this election in the bag, this week should be a wake-up call. I don't pay much attention to what the polls say week to week, but we can expect them to move in Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's favor this week.

They're going to get up on stage and spin a yarn about how they're fighting for the middle class. But behind the scenes, they're running a campaign that turns Medicare into a voucher program and devastates investments in education in order to give millionaires and billionaires a big tax break.

The next few days will be a stark reminder of just how much is at stake and how close this election is going to be.

It's on each and every one of us to make sure the Republicans don't have the opportunity to take us back, so pitch in $X or more today:

Thanks, and enjoy the show.

Wednesday: Make some calls to Iowa

Obama - Biden --

We're down to the final months before November. And if the countdown chart in your local field office doesn't make you think, here's something that will:

The way our neighbors in Iowa vote could win or lose this election for President Obama.

Luckily, we're here, and we're good neighbors. Since the contest over the state line is so close, it's up to us to give them an extra boost.

In Chicago on Wednesday, we'll be reaching out to folks in Iowa to get them fired up about supporting the President -- and to make sure they know they have a chance to see him in Des Moines on September 1st.

Can you make it? Here are the details:

What: Phone bank in Chicago

Where: 2144 W. Division Street Chicago, IL 60622

When: Wednesday, August 29th 6:30 pm

RSVP now

Phone banking is an easy and super-effective way to make an impact. We'll meet up on Wednesday to go over what makes a great phone call, then we'll get started right away ringing up voters in Iowa.

The folks you talk to right now could be the ones to make the difference as the results roll in on November 6th.

So how about it? RSVP now to join the phone bank in Chicago on Wednesday -- and help recruit our neighbors in Iowa to attend an event with President Obama that they'll never forget:

Polling bump

On the eve of the Republican convention, Romney and Ryan are ahead by two in Ohio, three in Virginia, one in Wisconsin, and one in Florida.

The RNC promises “a bump” in the polls after the convention. Mitt calls this his “pivotal” opportunity to seize a permanent lead in his quest to take over the White House and Senate.

If Mitt gets a polling bump and wins these four key states, it could be impossible for us to recover. We must raise $X by Mitt Romney's primetime speech on Thursday. We only have 72 hours. Can you give $X?

Mitt is going to use his primetime moment attempting to destroy President Obama. We must fight back. Please help us stop him and Ryan right now: [url]

wonder boy

--

Want to know why Romney put his money on the right-wing wonder boy, Paul Ryan, as his VP candidate?

You're going to see this week. When Ryan gives his big Convention speech and starts railing against Obamacare, those Tea Party fanatics are going to be leaping off their backsides to donate whatever they've got to defeat the President.

There's no way around it -- combine all this Tea Party money with all that Koch Brothers' Super PAC cash, and we're in danger of letting this thing get out of hand.

We've gotta close the gap and fight back before it's too late.

Chip in $X or whatever you can muster to back up President Obama with a Democratic majority

Now, we're coming down to the home stretch - the election is only a couple months out. I don't want that feeling in my gut after it's over where I wish we'd done more.

So I need y'all with me right now. Step up, hit ‘em where it counts, and send these guys packing once and for all:

Nicholas -- did you see James Carville's message? A new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows Romney with a 1-point lead -- it's make or break time.

The GOP and women

When it comes to women's rights, I have just about had it with Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the rest of the Republican Party.

Let's get this straight: Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's running mate, was a co-sponsor of a bill that would narrow the definition of rape. After Republican leadership tried, and failed, to force Rep. Todd Akin out of his Senate race, in part for his extreme views on abortion in cases of rape, the Republican Party is ratifying an official platform that follows Akin's policy lead and supports a constitutional ban on abortions -- even in cases of incest and rape.

They really do want to roll back women's rights -- and it's up to us to stop them.

Tomorrow's the first full day of the Republican convention. Before their first speaker gets up on that stage to peddle these regressive policies, donate $X or whatever you can today to help Democrats fight back.

If Republicans win in November, you better believe that they're going to try to steamroll their agenda through Congress -- and we have to take them at their word that they won't rest until they've outlawed a woman's right to make her own health care decisions.

There is only one way we can stop them: by making sure Democrats have the resources they need to fight back and win on Election Day.

We have a critical fundraising deadline coming up on Friday -- and the funds we raise before it will determine whether we can help Democrats across the country beat Republicans and their backwards, antiquated views on women's rights.

Donate $X or more today to help Democrats win:
