Issue:
Based on interview and record review, the hospital failed to ensure that Patient 1's medical information was kept confidential from anyone not authorized access.Findings:An interview with the Director of Risk Management (DRM) was conducted on 5/15/12 at 2:20 P.M. The DRM stated that a nurse inadvertently gave Patient 1's discharge instructions to another patient. The medical record indicated that patient's name, date of birth, phone number, address, and diagnosis. A review of the hospital's policy and procedure titled Confidentiality of Information indicated that, "Maintain safeguards for protection of sensitive information."
