Issue:

Based on interview and record review, the hospital failed to ensure that Patient 1's medical information was kept confidential from anyone not authorized access.Findings:An interview with the Director of Quality (DOQ) was conducted on 5/15/12 at 2:05 P.M. The DOQ stated that Patient 1's lab result was inadvertently faxed to the wrong fax number. The DOQ stated that the hospital staff should have checked to ensure that the correct fax number was entered. The medical information that was faxed inadvertently to the wrong fax number indicated the patient name, date of birth, and lab result.
