CM @RepGregoryMeeks: On the 60th anniversary of the Peace Corps, @HouseForeign honors its mission by passing its 1st reauthorization in more than 20 years out of the committee. I thank Rep. Garamendi for his work on this important legislation.

The families of those 218 killed by this tragedy and egregious government failure deserve nothing less than a thorough and impartial investigation as well as full accountability for those responsible, regardless of position. 2/3
To claim that there was limited cost to keeping 2,500 troops in Afghanistan for 5, 10, 20 years, misses the point. America cannot occupy militarily foreign states forever. There was no military solution w/o a massive surge of troops US citizens didn't & don't support. 5/7
We can always learn from our mistakes and do better. @HouseForeign intends to continue conducting oversight, not just on the weeks of withdrawal, but the 20 years that got us there. 7/7
We must challenge the traditional thinking that kept the US entrenched in twenty years of failed policy in Afghanistan. @POTUS inherited a deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. His decision to leave was the correct one. 6/7
Trump’s deal forced the Biden Administration into a difficult choice: continue with the withdrawal while trying to extend the timeline, or surge thousands of additional troops, while simultaneously placing US servicemembers increasingly in harm’s way. 4/7
Did Trump’s deal force a cease fire? No. Did it require the Taliban to stop attacking the Afghan state? No. Did Trump’s deal require the Taliban to separate from al-Qaeda? No. 3/7 https://t.co/6eIpPe2N4z
