Editors: don’t just give intel sources anonymity because they’re in the IC. Members: stop leaking and control your staffers.
Even if media went all-in on reporting on this correction, it’s too late. The horse is out of the barn. This unsourced intel leaking needs to stop
Following up on my earlier thread: predictably, it seems the leaked assessment was mischaracterized. But now the misinformation is in the political bloodstream and presidential candidates are still cynically amplifying it. https://t.co/oUQVq31W9F

7) Speaking truth to power is a noble aspiration for intel professionals, but IMHE it's rare for sources (particularly human sources) to serve up "truth" on a platter. Good intel can improve decision-making, but good sources are rare, and good writing is rarer still in the IC
6) This creates an impression of certainty that often doesn’t withstand simple logical scrutiny. E.g. the idea that Putin prefers Trump over Bernie or Biden is illogical if you examine their actual policies. Perhaps Putin could be that stupid OR perhaps the truth is more complex.
9) Also, the next DNI needs to put an end to these out-of-control intelligence leaks. There needs to be serious consequences for IC members involving themselves in domestic politics. They are not policymakers & should never be. Classification exists to protect sources & lives.
10) Finally, no president can keep the country safe if he suspects the details of classified assessments and convos are going to immediately wind up on CNN. It negates the secrecy & dispatch of the presidency, erodes trust between the branches, and thereby erodes trust in the IC.
8) So take a breath before deciding to run with clickbait crap or tweeting out “feel the Bern” in Russian. Ironically, those same politicians & pundits invoking the sanctity of intelligence are often doing the Russians' dirty work by creating confusion & sowing division.
1) Re: last week’s briefing on alleged Russian interference in the 2020 election. We just saw the press race to go over another collusion cliff, and take the public with them. This isn't helping anybody.

Parasite is a good movie, something you’d surprisingly enjoy if you stumbled upon it during a long flight. But 1917 is incredible. This is this biggest Oscars scandal since Stallone was snubbed for Creed in 2016!
Also @AmericanAir consider free standby on earlier flights when weather is inclement (even for those who don’t have status). $75/person seems exorbitant, especially when the seats are open so no cost to you or you incur costs when things later go wrong (ie hotel vouchers)
RT @JJCarafano: Like saying let Lance Armstrong race what could go wrong? QT @TheEconomist: Huawei should be allowed to compete. Excluding it would be costly and risks delaying 5G https://t.co/OkCXilW5df)
Hello @AmericanAir you diverted us on 2995 from GRB to MSP due to low vis after 1 landing attempt. Pilots then timed out after refusing ATC’s advice to fly back and try again. Yet other flights landed around same time (and continue to) in GRB. Also why not divert to nearby ATW?
