1. People are understandably concerned about the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak spreading across Asia, Europe, and now the Americas. We need clarity and decisive action, but instead we're seeing more leaks aimed at scoring partisan points that only serve to muddy the water.
2) Strong countries don’t deploy people like this to propagate insane conspiracy theories. They don’t lie to the world about a flu epidemic for so long it breaks out globally.
1) Astonishing CCP propaganda here from Zhao Lijian that Americans of all political parties should forcefully denounce. The CCP is telling us who they are. We’re just ignoring it. QT @niubi: Zhao Lijian, the global face of the PRC, keeps disgracing himself and his country)
9) I'm also going to post ideas about how we counter misinformation and blatant CCP propaganda. For example, why does twitter let Chinese govt accounts lie about the virus's origins? Why does it let govt.s that ban its platform domestically exploit it internationally at all?
8) To that end, I'll be using my political platforms to highlight the good work being done in Northeast Wisconsin to improve individual and community resilience.
7) What can I do to keep my family safe? What should I do if I have symptoms? When and where can I get a test? How can I help my neighbors? Wisconsinites are asking these questions. They're ready to focus and kill this virus as quickly and responsibly as possible.
6) We will have time to debate and eventually answer these questions (and hold the CCP accountable). But now is not the time to score cheap political points, fundraise off tragedy, or exacerbate divisions in this country. There are more important questions at hand.
5) What's in our strategic stockpile of supplies and why don't states have their own stockpiles? Why are so many useful idiots in the media parroting Chinese Communist Party (CCP) talking points like modern-day Walter Duranty?
4) People are angry. I get it. I'm angry too. I have many questions. Why did we ignore Wuhan for so long? Where was the WHO? Why can't Congress stay in session to respond? How can't we exponentially increase testing? Why do so many supply chain failures lead back to Beijing?
3) During the Wuhan coronavirus crisis, these platforms are clearly spreading misinformation and amplifying the voices of hack partisans trying to score cheap political points. Some politicians are even fundraising off the crisis. That must stop. We must unite to Kill the Virus.
2) I've been happy to use my official accounts for congressional business and constituent services. But I've been trying to figure out how to put my personal account to good use.
1) When I got into politics 3 years ago, I debated how to use social media. It's a great way to communicate directly. But it can also spread partisanship and misinformation. It can sow division, spread groupthink, and encourage our worst tendencies.
10) I remain a social media skeptic (I'm an old school millenial)! But let's at least try to celebrate some of the good in the face of this struggle, not exploit it. Send me your stories of what you're doing to Kill the Virus. my DMs are open (I just learned what that means).
6. But some are so blinded by partisanship that their concern with a China travel ban (or saying Wuhan) is racism? Absurd. The admin should not expect to be parroted uncritically. But the press should not parrot CCP propaganda & thereby feed paranoia. https://t.co/ol7SQdHYEl
7. This is a serious situation and we need to act accordingly. Listen to the experts. Wash your hands and avoid exposure. And visit the @CDCgov website below for more information about how you can protect yourself and your loved ones. https://t.co/QNOVpl8nU0
